One of the things I had been looking forward to for quite some time was decorating a baby’s room. This October, Stephen and I are expecting our first child and finally the time has come when we can start focusing on decorating a little room for him (yes, him!)! After we laid the foundation in the room with the furniture, we could start exploring our taste in baby items. An incredibly fun but also tricky search.
Choosing a color palette for the baby’s room
Beforehand, I didn’t expect us to choose a blue nursery. Although blue is my favorite color, I thought a blue nursery was pretty cliché. When we still didn’t know if we would have a boy or girl, I did plenty of inspiration through Pinterest, such a fun search! My board mostly filled up with old pink and coral tones for a girl or we thought army green/gray green colors were very pretty for a boy, or actually for a girl too. Secretly, I was convinced that we were expecting a girl, so my eye increasingly fell online on warm red/pink colors, girly accessories and the sweetest little rooms. So the surprise that we are expecting a boy this fall was very big, but at least as much fun. How happy we are and we can’t wait to meet him! From then on the search for our own style could begin. There were numerous brands in baby stores with beautiful colors, but nothing (at that time) really matched the color green that I – we – had(d) in mind. Stephen was a little easier than me and liked a lot of things, but in terms of interior design, he thankfully let me off the hook. As long as we finally agreed on the final design. And we did! I fell in love with a dark blue blanket by Koeka and it was immediately clear that the color theme in the room would form around this.
Blue, brass, wood and white
A wooden crib, a round warm white rug for the floor and the well-known white HEMNES from IKEA that will serve as a dresser form the basis of the little room. We wanted a wooden crib so we will continue the wooden accents in a shelf, decoration and chair legs of the beige IKEA STRANDMON chair that we will place in the corner of the room. One wall in the room is painted in the color of the blue Koeka blanket and the wallpaper is from the Eijffinger Mini Me collection. The wallpaper looks very calm, but is still very playful because of the different shapes. The lines between the ’tiles’ have a small shine which makes brass a nice accent in the room. We do this for example in the form of knobs on the dresser (see collage! These buttons are from Doinggoods and are available in multiple shapes). Very nice and I can not see everything together. The foundation has been laid and the room is still full of baby items that we do not yet want to put in the rest of our house, but over time the room will get more and more finished. I can’t wait to see and capture the end result!
